- Olivia vs Carly 2.0
My favorite scenes so far with Carly are the episodes in which she is most like Olivia. The scene where she is so snarky with Vivian when they first see each other in Salem and the scene where she 'gets in Hope's face' and tells her "you didn't want him!" when they argue about Bo.
I hope that Carly begins to show some backbone and that the writers let CC do what she does so well!
I need to go to some OfSaholics anon class. Carly is sooo not Liv. Not that that's down to Crystal, it's the fact theres no humour in the script. Angsts gotta have humour. I really wanted to fall in love with Gina (as in Venice not GT) and haven't, so I tried to get into days and that didn't work either. Bad times :(
Also, Carly totally stole Livs graveside lines, didn't apreciate that one. Bo's ewwwy.
Anyway I'm just hoping they give Gina a heart sometime soon (metaphorically speaking, although that would be hilarious) cos she has some funny/kickass potential, and they have to make the lead character looveable, right!?
Not really fond of Carly. Don't like to see abused women and clinging to jerk. The story is so boring. The writing is lazy, predictable, stupid. Not enjoying this daze stuff. Most stories are not that great and the acting, well, not so good!
Agree, not liking Gina, either! Miss my Liv.
hachiomaru- everything you wrote sums up what i think perfectly. you're bang on about the acting, i didn't really wanna say it, as like half the venice actors are also in days but yeh! i find it really quite dificult to watch.
i properly wish they could've just stolen Liv (and Nat (and Doris?)) and done a spin off. Wishful thinking there, maybe have been reading too much FF.
I have found another CC character that i like alot, (cos she's independent and doesn't go running to jerks) and that was her character in Bigfoot. Way suprised when i loved that film. may have to start a new topic to spaz (omg, just as PC as fucktard *mental hi5!*) about it!
**follow up note cos I did alot of slagging and forgot to mention that I think Galen seems good in Venice so far, and Nadia seems lovely so I'm hopeful that she'll be good too. I really do think it's the plots fault. Like practically all of the scenes, it seems apropriate to pull a Joey from friends acting face, cos there's like 0 range.
Is there really any point to this group? Olivia beats Carly hands down!
I enjoy watching Liv more than Carly. I guess I just miss Liv's humor, backbone/confidence, and power that CC protrayed in Liv..
Not fond of the writing and acting on DOOL. Except for CC though. I would love to see more of CC's humor on DOOL but will probably only get it on Venice. I am loving Galen on Venice though and am looking forward to seeing Nadia and how different her character will be from Chloe. Am used to the CBS soaps so DOOL is very different. Any one else out there having the same experience?
Natalie, I agree. I've watched the CBS soaps (plus AMC) for decades and Days just isn't the same. I have enjoyed the Carly/Vivian scenes, but I really just miss Olivia. Of course, I also miss Natalia so I hope they get Jessica in some more Venice episodes soon!
olivia, olivia where art thou. im with natalie peterson.dool is so old hat.
Jennifer I so miss Natalia too and the dynamic between her and Olivia. And not even the romantic stuff between them but the friendship as well.
The DOOL storylines just don't move along at all. I feel like the replay the same scenes over and over again. I am actually only watching DOOL for Crystal. The other day I was watching a scene between her and Bo and I got a glimpse of Olivia and it made me sad about no more Olivia and Natalia. boo hoo! :)
If it was Carly 1.0 it would be hard to choose, but 2.0 makes it an easy choice. I like Olivia better.
I would pick Olivia at this moment and time but then again olivia has evolved over the years where Carly 2.0 has only been on screen for 4 months. When the character of Olivia started on GL she wasnt the strong character she was at the end of the show so carly 2.0 might be just as differnet. So give me a couple of years and ask me this question again and I might have a different answer
That is a very good point, shyone! Olivia changed a lot over the years and Carly 2.0 (whom everyone in town hates right now) is already different from Carly 1.0 (aka "Saint Carly")! Maybe they are working on taking this character in a completely different direction.
The writing on DOOL is so lame. Watching Venice makes one appreciate good, real dialogue. Carly is in an impossible role; with the sad lack of imagination on this show, she will run around in endless circles -- with Bo and Hope ultimately getting back together. What a predictable mess of a plot. Guiding Light had some spunk. DOOL is a waste and I'm sorry Crystal couldn't get on a more innovative show -- maybe later? Maybe Y&R which has some life in it.
Personally, I like Olivia, I like Carly, and I like Gina. They all have their good points...to each their own! I loved Olivia's quirky sense of humor, hold nothing back, take no prisoners, kick ass, I see your bullshit, and I'll raise ya, attitude!! The way Olivia and Carly choose to protect the ones they love may be a little different, but the end goal is the same. Olivia dealt with pain by lashing out to help make herself feel better, a defense mechanism...this is where Carly is the stronger person. Olivia was feisty, had more backbone, and stood up for herself in a more 'in your face manner', but when you strip it apart, Carly is more grounded. There may be a few things, which on the surface, seem different about Carly this time around, but the foundation is still the same.....I have always admired Carly's willingness to put others first and truly love, period. I liked that Olivia finally got there!! Olivia and Carly are both great characters....just different, the way it should be!! I have seen a lil snippet of Olivia here and there in Carly and I'm not complaining! ;-) It's just too bad that Carly isn't a lil more flashy, cuz I sure miss the Olivia hair do's!! =-)) Gina....hmm....Props to her for telling The Colonel how it is! Gina is also feisty, and she does have a heart, whether she wants to admit it or not. I think Gina is a bit of a lost soul, still searching for her true happiness, but having a hard time finding it, or allowing herself to find/have it, hence her small commitment problem!! ;-)) All in all, I say kudos to CC for making each character stand alone! It only proves what a true talent she is!! ;-)
I agree with most everyone here, I sure miss Olivia and "Otalia'. It's nic e to see CC on Days, but It's just not the same. It's nice to know that others feel the same way, I was beginning to think that I was the only one.
I miss Olivia a lot but I enjoy Carley. I would like to see that attitude of Olivia come out in Carly.
I LIKE OLIVIA!! --KINDA LIKE CARLY!!---HAVEN'T MET GINA---YET!!!!

No one will ever be Olivia! Plain and simple. Struggling with Carly myself but it's not the talented actress it's the material she has to work with. Soaps are limited. Although Venice is taking it to another level.
I watched Days when Carly was on the first go round so I see the differences and similarities from Carly 1.0 and 2.0. Some I like and some not so much right now. As a long time viewer of Days and GL I also recognize how incredibly different the writing styles are for the 2 shows. No comparison can be made in a fair way between Carly and Olivia. Do I miss GL and Olivia? No question.
I realize how lucky I am as a viewer to get the chance to have CC bring Carly back to Days and recreate the role where I first saw her. Now I just have to be patient and see what else they, writers, have in store for me.
Olivia was such a different kind of character when she first came to GL. She was bright, beautiful and got in Reva's face. How fun was that? Not a lot of people did that. Carly was the adored lady of Salem, the doctor who saved everyone. Now she can't seem to do anything right. In the end these difficulties will make the character stronger. Isn't fighting for what she needs what helped Olivia become the woman Nat fell in love with and fought so very hard for?
Olivia lashing out wasn't always rational and mature - it was purely emotional. I LOVE Olivia so don't get me wrong. Carly seems to have more restraint and this could be seen as more mature and in control. But I feel like I've been seeing wounded duck since I started watching DOOL. Of course, for a victim of abuse that may not be all that uncommon. It should be interesting through all the issues with Bo and Melanie to see how she comes through it. Perhaps a little Olivia will pop out. But then again, it's a soap and seeing the spoilers I'm a bit concerned that they are pigeon holing CC.

There has been signs of Olivia in Carly 2.0 which is nice since I miss Otalia sooo much (wish that we can get those episodes in a DVD or something).

Anyone else finding the lighting on Days weird? It will take me time to get used to it since GL used natural lighting in its last months. CC pulls it off, of course, regardless.
I'm being totally superficial here but Olivia on the GL was powerful and sexy.
S he had the best hair on daytime and those powersuits she wore-smoking!
Dr.Manning-as beautiful as CC is-DOOL is not using her best attributes as they should be.
All IMO!
Yeah. I am with you. Olivia was powerful and confident. A bitch more often than not but compelling to watch. Dr. Manning is okay but I need her to stop being a doormat and soon. CC plays the powerful woman so well I need her to drop a big one on the show and soon. I dont like the victim and everyone hates her for no stupid reason. At least with Olivia people disliked the character for a reason.
