“I watched GL for most of my life (I'm 29 now) with my Mom and Granny. I was allowed to skip school for the big stuff, weddings, funerals fights, as long as it was on GL and I wanted to see it. That was like a rule.
Now when Olivia and Natalia first started orbiting each other, my Mom wasn't okay with me being gay. As Otalia progressed, through the good and the bad, my Mom began to take a different view on me.
She would tell me that one day i was going to grow up and be like Olivia (I'm still waiting on my hotel though!). Now my Mom recently (May 10th) had several heart attacks and strokes, causing her dementia and alzhimers to kick fully in, and is now no longer the same person who watched Otalia and GL with me. When she came back a little bit to herself for a few moments she looked at me and said someday honey you will have your Natalia.

Otalia, Crystal Chappell and Jessica Leccia have given our community hope. They have given us a voice and a chance to again be seen as humans who are not anything negative or harmful.
The more hatred that Rafe, Frank, and Father Ray spewed, it reminded me of a phrase I used for a project in college. "The more people hate, the more I want to say I love you."
I never took that quote to be strictly about romantic love, but simply the fact that the more hate there is in the world, the more people you love need to know it and hear it.
Even now, I still have Otalia episodes saved on my DVR so I still watch them, at least one eppie a day plus all the videos that come out as I can find them on YouTube.” – Jessica D

Otalia for me, is an escape from the harsh reality of not being accepted, the narrow mindedness, and the hate that, unfortunately, still exist in the world...To the hope of an IDEAL world of being accepted, having unconditional love, peace, and happiness....which I have found here in this community of beautiful souls.

Although, I haven't been around as much as I used to be....I still return, from time to time, to remind myself that this ideal world still exist right here with my Otalia and Venice friends.

Otalia for me brought me the connection to a larger more diverse community ( because hey , it reaches all over the world, lol) than the less diverse one I live in . I find with the Otalia community I don't have to watch everything I say making sure that the content of what I say is only about the cynical political side of being a lesbian , or bisexual. Through Otalia I met people where i can talk about all sorts of topics, it is sooooo nice!! and then there is all this fanfiction and videos. A virtual sea of creativity and community. Before I felt like I was living behind a wall and I knew a more broader community was out there but I didn't know how to connect to it. Although still active in my own local community, I feel like with the Otalia and Venice communities I was able to send some sort of line of communication that I often image in my mind . I sent it over the wall out to this bigger community that you are all a part of . Its a place where I can be more the funny creative intelligent person that I am. I've gotten my sense of humor back , and I find myself laughing from my soul now all the time.

For me through Otalia i met the love of my life Rach, and have gotten to know so many great people here , on facebook ,on twitter and youtube ..We have become a family because of Otalia ! I, like so many others, have become a better person in so many ways because of it. I find it much easier to express my thoughts and feelings, I am a better listener, more patient and an overall happier individual. It's amazing what Otalia has unknowingly accomplished.
