Founded in 2009, Open Book Productions (OBP) is now a sole ownership venture for Crystal Chappell. Focused on rapid response and flexible production strategies, OBP is committed to devising practical and economical methods for bringing high quality productions to the web, beginning with Venice The Series, a critically-acclaimed and Emmy award-winning web series.

OBP is expanding its properties and actively working on multiple projects in the Hollywood entertainment industry. OBP provides production support on both creative and management levels.

Venice The Series

Venice The Series provides a groundbreaking business, production, and content model for the web. Venice developed from Chappell’s commitment to portray strong, decisive, and complex characters while simultaneously maintaining creative control. She believes that the web is the medium for achieving this goal. Venice The Series strives to reinvigorate the familiar on-going serial format format by making it accessible to a new generation of web users. It includes a wide range of characters with diverse backgrounds and identities: gay and straight, old and young, of varying races and ethnicities.

OBP is proud of its success with Venice The Series, and is committed to expanding and developing additional short-format videos for entertainment, music, and advertising.

MUSIC – LABEL AND DISTRIBUTION

Though OBP was conceived as a video production company, music has always been an important part of Venice The Series and we’ve collaborated with many talented musicians. Through such work together, it became apparent that our flexible and innovative technology is well-suited to the distribution of music as well as video. Recently, under the guidance of Music Supervisor Kelly Moneymaker, the OBP music label has taken shape as a viral distribution option for artists of all levels.
